Talking on Zoom is good.

Face to face conversations in rooms are perfectly fine.

Coaching in cafes is nice .... and can involve cake!

But coaching on a Walk and Talk takes things to a whole new level.

Open spaces and sunshine can give us a different perspective
Open spaces and sunshine can give us a different perspective

Apart from getting your steps in, there are some key advantages to a Walk and Talk.

  1. Simply being outdoors can provide a break from the norm. Sitting in an office and engaging in our usual work tasks can often put us into a state of auto pilot.

Walking outdoors and talking about what matters to you, shakes you free from this routine and truly helps you to view your challenges from a wider and alternative perspective. Even when it's not so sunny!

  2. Walking side by side can give your eyes a break from staring at the screen. We can spend much of our lives in online meetings and feeling like we are permanently 'on'. Even a face to face conversation can make us feel under pressure to give someone our full and undivided attention.

Walking side by side means that your focus is straight ahead .... putting one foot in front of the other. When I ask you a question, you can take your time, carry on walking and be in your own thoughts. There is less pressure to come up with a response because we're not facing one another.

  1. The forward momentum of walking adds to the sense of direction and focus. Each step moves us forward with the conversation and gets us closer to the intended outcome that we identified at the start of the conversation.

You keep the pace. If you need to speed up to give you focus, I'll keep up.

If you need to slow your pace down to give you thinking time and space, that's fine too.
